olympic torch

I heard of this interesting topic from the radio while driving back from work today. Is about the recent hype about the Olympic torch relay that going on around the world, and this week is in our very own Malaysia Boleh, before the grand opening in Beijing August this year.

Background: the modern world + airplane

Fact 1: Olympic torch's flame never stop burning (except some recent sabotage incidents in some countries), representing the traditional Olympic spirit that never stop burning

Fact 2: Flammable things/liquids not allowed on airplane, an international flight regulation

Question: So, is it really true that the Olympic flame never stop burning, especially when the nowadays Olympic flame has the luxury to be carried on the airplane? Any takers on this doubts?

  • i learn from discovery channel that it's true that they carry the flame on the plane. The plane is specially designed for this torch rally and the put the fire on a special container, hanging on the wall, while the torch "guard" sitting in front of it.

  • They keep it on the plane in a special Olympic lantern.

The Star carried a report on that on Sat/Sunday.

  • It seems that there are more than 1 Olympic flames burning. Reading from this article, http://en.bcnq.com/cndy/2008-04/14/content_6613599.htm, there are 3 flames, i.e. one in Greece, another in Beijing and lastly the relay torch. So even if the flame on the relay torch has to be extinguished for any unforeseen reasons (recently) the Olympic spirit still burns on until the end of the game.
