global warming
Well, it has been 2 postings for the Sunday night, why not make it 3 :)
Third posting is about "global warming", a topic that is not new, but that have been appearing in news again recently with more alarming facts, and I have been reading about them.
Below are some facts that I have excerpted. Anyhow, although global warming has started to do a lot of damages, all human/nations are doing now is still thinking/fighting of economic benefits and not thinking of the consequences. Or I am still living in my own ideal

- It could also open the Northwest Passage along the northern coast of North America and connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to shipping by as early as 2020 or 2025, he said. That could be a cheaper option for many shippers than the Panama Canal.
- A predicted thaw in the Arctic ice cover combined with a search for energy supplies is leading to a new "gold rush" in the high north, bringing diplomatic problems in its wake as five countries vie for access to resources. There are disputes involving all of the five - the United States, Canada, Russia, Norway and Denmark.
- The ice thaw is predicted by a team of international researchers whose Arctic Climate Impact Assessment suggested last year that the summer ice cap could melt completely before the end of this century because of global warming. If the ice retreats, it could open up new shipping routes and new areas where natural resources could be exploited.
- In any event, the hunt is on for oil and gas. The US Geological Survey estimates that a quarter of the world's undiscovered energy resources lies in Arctic areas.
- Antarctica stores enough ice to raise ocean levels by about 57 metres if it ever all melted. Greenland has about 7 metres, according to U.N. data.
- All other glaciers on land, from the Norwegian Arctic to the Himalayas, are tiny by comparison and contain only enough ice combined to raise sea levels by about 15-37 cm.
